Somaya Critchlow's debut solo show in a UK public institution at Dulwich Picture Gallery is now open. The one-room display features six new works commissioned by the Gallery, including three figurative paintings, three smaller works, and sketchbooks made during a period of in-depth observation of the Gallery’s Old Master paintings.
Struck by the narrative works of Peter Paul Rubens, Peter Lely and Anthony van Dyck, Critchlow considers how the stories behind these paintings often mask complex power structures.
'The Chamber' is part of the Gallery’s Unlocking Paintings series: thought provoking displays that present new perspectives on the Gallery’s collection.
