Somaya Critchlow’s Untitled (Portrait) (2022) is now on display for the first time as part of new collections displays at Pallant House Gallery. Hung in the Queen Anne townhouse, the work appears alongside Lucian Freud’s Head of a Girl in a room exploring themes of identity, family, and kinship, with works by Frank Auerbach, David Bomberg, Ronald Moody, and Rachel Jones.
“The work is so psychologically charged, everyone notices it,” Critchlow has said of Freud. “He was so masterful and so real, but he allowed his own personal views and imagination in.”
