Ro Robertson: Frieze Sculpture

October 2022

Ro Robertson introduces us to their transformatory work Drench at Frieze Sculpture 2022. Inspired by the tidal zone, five forms made of weathering steel are painted in blues up to a ‘tide line’, with other parts exposed and left to rust. For Robertson, the tide’s continuous cycle of dehydration and rehydration – or drenching – creates a space of transformation and renewal.

The semi-abstract figures of Drench – which exist between the sea and the body – offer an expanded reading of the body free from binary and rigid understandings.

Frieze Sculpture is curated by Clare Lilley and will be open from 14 September – 13 November 2022 and is free to the public.
