We are proud to present a new publication from Somaya Critchlow. Somaya Critchlow: Paintings documents over four years of exhibited and unexhibited paintings with an interpretive essay by art historian Amanda Renshaw. Somaya Critchlow’s work delves into a fascination with self-perception and othering, suffixing the tradition of figuration with a considered examination of nudity and atmosphere. The paintings collected here compose a narrative that sets women at the centre of image-making, their gazes interrupting our latent desire for an unconditional viewing, the objects of their world made anew with eerie significance.
Somaya Critchlow: Paintings is co-published by Skira editore, Milan and Maximillian William, London.
Available to order from our bookshop here. There will also be an in person signing at Reference Point, London on Wednesday 1 December, 6:30 – 8:00pm.
